Settings Overview

How the Settings page is grouped, what each section is for, and how the main menu opens it at a section.

Work Planner Team12 April 2026

Open Settings in the main menu when you need to change how a business is set up: its details, team, lists, payments, messages, imports, or exports. The menu lists the sections of the Settings page, and choosing one opens the page at that section. The page is a hub rather than a form, so nothing is saved here directly; each tile takes you to the screen where that setting is managed, such as Services or Payment Providers.

How the Page Is Grouped

How to Use the Hub

  • Click a tile: Each tile opens the real screen for that setting. The Settings page itself does not have a save button.
  • What you see: The page only shows the screens your role can use, and leaves out a section when none of its screens are open to you. Some screens also depend on your plan, such as Email and HMRC.
  • Your own settings: Your profile, passkeys, and notification settings are not part of Settings, as they belong to you rather than the business. Open My Profile from the menu under your picture or initials instead.
  • Business-specific screens: Many destination pages show a business selector when you manage more than one business. Changes on those pages apply to the selected business only.
  • Phone-only tile: The Card reader tile in Payments only appears in the Work Planner phone app, for people who can take card payments. It sets up Tap to Pay on iPhone or Android, or a card reader, on that phone, as covered in Card Reader Screen.

What Changes Where

  • Business setup pages: Screens such as services, organisation information, and payment providers change how work is labelled, priced, communicated, or collected later. Accounts & tax changes how your figures and tax are worked out.
  • Import pages: Import tools create or update live records inside the chosen business, so they have an immediate operational effect once you run them.
  • Phone settings: The Card reader screen is saved on the phone you set it up on, so it changes how that phone takes card payments rather than anything for your account or the business.
  • Organisation Information Screen: A good first stop when you are setting up a business.
  • Accounts and Tax Settings: The checklist for your accounts and tax, from your business type and VAT to HMRC.
  • Terminology: Shows how to rename the job-collection wording across the app.
  • Services List: A good next stop if you are setting up the core service list for jobs and quotes.
  • Payment Methods List: Useful when you are configuring how payments are recorded later.
  • SMS Settings: Useful when you need to decide how outgoing text messages are sent.
  • Website Overview: How the My Website area is organised.
  • Profile: Your own account settings, which open from the menu under your picture or initials.
  • Card Reader Screen: Setting up Tap to Pay on iPhone or Android, or a card reader, on your phone.
