Business and Date Filtering

How the button under the Dashboard title sets its period and businesses, including quick ranges, custom ranges, all-time mode, saved preference behaviour, and URL memory.

Work Planner Team11 April 2026

The Dashboard says what it's showing in one button, centred under its title: your businesses, when you work across more than one, over the period, such as This Week · 2 Nov – 8 Nov 2026. The period controls the reporting window for most financial widgets and charts, and the businesses control which feed into the page at all.

Click the button to change them. Showing slides out from the right, or up from the bottom on a phone, with the Period and Business. Each change shows on the Dashboard straight away, and Show closes it. When the Dashboard is on anything else, Reset puts it back to all your businesses and This Week, where it starts on your first visit.

Period Options

  • Quick ranges: The quick options include Today, Yesterday, This Week, Last Week, This Month, Last Month, This Tax Year, Last Tax Year, Last 12 Months, and All Time.
  • Year choices: These cover the financial year set in Settings > Accounts & tax. They read This Tax Year and Last Tax Year when it starts on 6 April, This Year and Last Year when it starts on 1 January, and This Financial Year and Last Financial Year otherwise.
  • Custom range: Use this when the quick options do not match the exact period you want to review.
  • All Time: This clears the normal start and end dates and shows the widest available history instead.
  • Apply: A quick range changes the Dashboard as soon as you click it. For a custom range, click its first and last days on the calendar, then Apply.

What the Date Range Changes

  • Money widgets: Work done, money received, tips, net cash flow, the trend charts, and the breakdowns by service and payment method all use the selected range.
  • Work Done comparison: The comparison badge only appears for This Week, Last Week, This Month, and Last Month. It does not show for the other quick ranges, All Time or an arbitrary custom range.
  • Money card links: The link under a date-based money card, such as Open Profit and loss, opens that page for the same dates, and for the same business when you have picked just one.
  • Not every widget is date-based: Some widgets stay current snapshots rather than becoming historic views. Jobs by Status, Owed to You and Pending Payments are examples.

Business Filter

  • Business: Use this to restrict the Dashboard to one business or a chosen set of businesses. The button then names the business, or says how many, such as 2 businesses, and reads All businesses while you haven't picked any.
  • Access-aware: The Business field only shows when you are working across multiple businesses. Work Planner also respects whether your role can view dashboard metrics for each one.
  • No-access message: If the current business selection does not include any businesses you can view on the Dashboard, Work Planner shows a clear message instead of empty widgets.

Saved State

  • Date preference: Your selected quick date option is saved to your dashboard preferences.
  • URL memory: The Dashboard keeps its filter state in the page URL as well, so reloading the page or sharing the exact state is easier.
  • Practical effect: If you always open the Dashboard in a particular reporting window, Work Planner tends to bring you back to that view rather than resetting every time.
