Dashboard Overview

How the Dashboard is laid out, what the main widget groups are for, and how the page behaves for different business selections and permissions.

Work Planner Team11 April 2026

The Dashboard is the top-level snapshot of the tenant app. It pulls together financial totals, work counts, charts, and a short upcoming-work table so you can see what needs attention without jumping through multiple menus first.

What the Page Is Made Of

  • Summary cards: These are the small cards across the grid for totals such as Work Done, Money Received, Owed to You, tips, missed jobs, and overdue jobs. Each money card has a link under its figure to the page behind it, such as Open Profit and loss or Open Who owes you, when your role can open that page. The fuller breakdown sits in Revenue and Financial Summary Cards.
  • Charts: The larger charts show trends and breakdowns, such as the work done over time, money received by payment method, or jobs split by status or service.
  • Missed-jobs widgets: A dedicated set of widgets surfaces missed work by reason, team member, service, and over time, alongside a top-missed-jobs table. Start from the Missed Jobs Card and drill down from there.
  • Upcoming Scheduled Jobs: This table gives a short list of active jobs that are coming up soon.
  • Time Off This Week: Who in your team is off this week and when, for anyone who can see the team's availability. See Time Off This Week Widget.
  • Vehicle Dates: Your vehicles' MOT, road tax, insurance, service and breakdown cover dates that are overdue or due within a month, and any vehicle booked off the road this week, for anyone who can see vehicles, once your business has one. See Vehicle Dates Widget.
  • Weather: The Met Office forecast for today and the next six days where your business is, from its address, with each day opening its weather through the working day. See Weather Forecast.
  • Total SMS Credits Remaining: The SMS credits left on the billing account, counting both the allowance in the current billing period and any credit packs bought on top. Credits are shared by every business on the account, so this number stays the same whichever businesses or dates you have selected. Underneath, such as 40 of 100 used, it counts the billing period's allowance and the credit packs still being spent: a pack drops out once it's used up, so a top-up shows as a fresh pack. A Reorder button takes you straight to buying another pack, and appears only for whoever owns the billing on the account, while the account has SMS messaging from its plan or the SMS Messaging bolt-on.
  • Filters and layout controls: The button centred under the title says which businesses and period the Dashboard is showing, and opens them to change, as described in Business and Date Filtering. The Edit Layout button opens the same layout tools covered in Widget Visibility and Order.

Who Sees What

  • Dashboard access: If your role cannot view the dashboard for the businesses selected, Work Planner opens the first of Worksheets, Jobs, the Planner and Customers that your role can use instead, such as when you sign in. Only if it can use none of them do you see an access message in place of the widgets.
  • Business-aware view: In multi-business setups, the page respects the selected businesses and only shows metrics for businesses you are allowed to see.
  • Hidden widgets: If you hide every widget and leave edit mode, Work Planner shows an empty-state message rather than a blank page.

Why the Dashboard Is Useful

  • Start of day check: It is a quick way to see whether debt, overdue work, or upcoming work needs attention first.
  • Management view: Charts and financial widgets help you spot patterns that are harder to see from individual lists such as Jobs List or Transactions List.
  • Personal working view: Because the layout is saved per user, the Dashboard can be arranged around the numbers you check most often.

Keeping the Figures Current

The figures refresh by themselves as work is done across your business, at most every couple of minutes, so a dashboard left open on the office screen stays current.

Being Asked for a Review

Now and then, once your business has settled in, the Dashboard asks whether you would review Work Planner. On a computer, Email me the link has Trustpilot email you a link to leave your review; in the iPhone and Android apps, your phone's own review prompt appears instead. It only asks business owners, never on a visit where something else has popped up, such as What's new or your daily summary, and Not now holds it off for a few months. You can review whenever you like from My Profile.
