Work Done Card
What the Work Done card counts on the Dashboard, what it leaves out, and why it can look different from the money you have received.
The Work Done card shows what you charged for the work done in the Dashboard's date range. Its title names the range, such as Work Done (This Month), Work Done (This Tax Year) or Work Done (All Time). Work counts once it's done, whether or not the customer has paid yet, so this isn't the money you've received.
What It Counts
- Completed jobs and other charges: Every completed charge dated in the range, from the jobs you've done and any other charges you've added.
- Missed visits: Not counted. A missed visit is work lost, not work done, so it shows on the Missed Jobs Card instead.
- Opening balances: Opening balances, whether entered with a new job, brought in by an import, or ticked on a transaction, are left out, as they bring over what was owed from before you used Work Planner.
- Tips: Not counted here. They have their own Total Tips Card.
- VAT: For a VAT-registered business the figure is before VAT. Other businesses see the whole amount.
- Date-sensitive: Change the Dashboard's period or business, with the button under its title, and the card works the figure out again straight away.
Comparison Badge
- Ranges with a comparison: For This Week, Last Week, This Month and Last Month, the card compares the work done with the period before, such as vs same period last month.
- Colour: The comparison is in green when you did more work than the period before, and in red when you did less.
- Other ranges: Today, Yesterday, the year choices, Last 12 Months, All Time and dates you pick yourself don't show a comparison.
- Nothing to compare with: If the period before had no work done but this one has, there's no percentage to give, so the badge is hidden rather than showing a misleading figure.
Where the Link Goes
Under the figure, Open Profit and loss opens the Profit and Loss Report for the same dates, or your financial year so far when the card is on All Time. On the accruals basis, which you're on unless you choose otherwise, the report's income starts from this same work done. On cash basis it starts from the money you received instead, so the two can differ. The link only shows if your role can see reports.
How to Use It
- Trend check: The quickest answer to whether you're doing more work or less than the period before.
- Not money received: For what customers have actually paid, see the Money Received Card. A gap between the two that keeps growing usually means more is owed to you.
- Not profit: Nothing you spent is taken off. Net Cash Flow takes your expenses off the money received, and the Profit and Loss Report gives your profit.
